Six Months Old…ALREADY???

Where has the time gone?  It is so hard for us to imagine our lives before Carter entered…nor do we want to.  We love watching all the new things he can do and all that catches his eye. Below is a little sample of what highlights our day.

Carter is the sunshine in our day as we wake him in the morning! He is always full of smiles and immediately snuggles into us when we pick him up to start the day. He will sleep in until 9am if allowed, but is a happy boy if a day starts as early as 6:30 a.m.

He loves to tell us everything he has on his mind, let me give you a sample…”blah, blah, blah, ba,ba, da, da, mama”. Sometimes loudly, as being loud can be funny! He loves to be tickled!

Carter loves music, sing to him or play music for him, it doesn’t matter.  He is working on his dance moves everyday with Mommy. Even Daddy has been joining in the fun and teaching him the “ride the horsey” move!

Bananas are a favorite and a staple for Carter.  He loves his varieties of cereals, yet he is quick to tell us if he doesn’t like the food just introduced to him.  He has taken slowly to his vegetables, except peas which were a huge hit from day one.  Green beans and sweet potatoes are now on the “good” list, carrots on the other hand have not moved up the ladder from day one. Several gagging reflexes with his imitation of a trumpet player will follow to eliminate any carrots that may remain in his mouth.

The best is his huge smile and the slathering of kisses that are delivered upon picking him up from daycare!  Kisses that start by him grabbing each side of your face to pull you in close followed by a big open mouth that lands on you with some forcefulness that tells you just how happy he is to see you.

The next six months are sure to hold more wonderful things and adventures!  We love you Carter!!!

Then… ...Now

Spending time with my boys

There is alot that I could be doing but nothing beats a day at home with my hubbie and Carter.  It hasn’t been a day of momentus activities, just being together in the same space.  This morning Carter and I let Daddy sleep in  – he is still catching up from being in Vegas last week!  I decided it was a good morning to make waffles for us to share.  Carter loves them… maybe that has to do with the fact that I love anything with syrup and that love was unaffected by being pregnant with him.  Carter, although too young for syrup, will eat up pancakes, waffles, or french toast with the utmost excitement.  After our breakfast and some singing we snuggled up on the recliner and had a nap together while Daddy had some brunch of his own.  The rest of the day has been quiet and relaxing and just being together.  This picture of the boys together was taken a few weekends ago, but I love it… they are so precious to me!

Daycare

This week has been an emotional one for me as Carter has started daycare.  With the doctor’s paperwork being ready on Monday he was ready to start on Tuesday.  The waterworks began for me on Monday afternoon.  Each time I thought about having to drop Carter off with people I had only met once I teared up.  I wasn’t ready – how do you get yourself ready for this?  I didn’t want someone else having all the time with him that I have been eating up for the last 5 months.  Tuesday morning came and Russell had mentioned that I should take my time, but it still was inevitable and around 10:45 we headed to Celebree.  I cried on the way there while telling Carter that he was going to have so much fun and meet some new friends.  Having composed myself by the time we arrived at the center we proceeded in.  The moment I stepped over the threshold of his classroom I began to cry.  The teachers were kind and reassured me they would take care of him.  Carter went to them easily and was happy to sit in their exersaucer and play.  I dried my tears and left knowing they would take care of him, he would be happy, and I would eventually be o.k.  Now four days later it is much easier than that first day, but I still miss our play days together and seeing his smiling face when I pick him up is easily the highlight of my day!

Elfin’ Cheer

We saw this last year from our friend Blake and were just reminded of it by the Pottebaums.

Enjoy!

Makes me smile…

Trying on hats

to capture those cute smiles.

Other things about Carter that make me smile:

**looking at his sweet face while he sleeps

**to see his big grin when Daddy comes home and says “Hey Buddy!”

**his giggles

**how he recognizes the hand sign for milk and gets excited to eat

**sharing my banana with him in the morning

These are just a few of so many!

THANKSGIVING

Little Football Fan

We hope that you enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday as much as we did.  Ours was spent being thankful that Jennie and Scott made the trip up to be with us. This is the second year for the four of us celebrating together.  They arrived early Thursday morning with the turkey, fixings for green bean casserole, sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie! All the ingredients for stuffing and mashed potatoes were in my kitchen ready to go. YUM! Jennie and I enjoyed cooking together while Russell and Scott took Bailey and Abbie on a walk.  The dogs came back wet from a romp in the river and Abbie even tried to chase down some deer.  Carter had his first little taste of sweet potatoes and even got Scott to join in and try a bite.  Scott found they weren’t near as bad as he had remembered them! After the meal was over we settled in and cheered on the Cowboys.  Carter showed his support by wearing his Cowboy onesie and looking cute as ever. I spent time reflecting on how last year at this time we didn’t even know that I had him growing inside me and now he has provided Russell and I so much to love and cherish.  For that we are both so very thankful!!

Austin trip recap

Carter and I had such a fun trip to Austin.  Here is a quick recap even though it was over two weeks ago now…

First Flight

After being sent off with lots of hugs and kisses from Daddy,  Auntie Jennie helped us make Carter and I get through security.  It was so nice to have her there to help with this for my first time - it wouldn’t have gone as smoothly without her.  After standing in line at Starbuck’s and then rushing to our gates, Carter and I chose our window seat and settled in on a four day old plane.  Yes, right about this point this new Mommy asked herself, “How do you plan to hold and feed a baby while keeping a hot coffee from spilling everywhere?”  The answer quickly came to me… drink it, and drink it fast…it was gone before we backed from the gate.  Carter was so great during the take off and only let out a few wimpers when the plane was descending.  One fellow passenger said Carter was “Good as Gold”.  We gathered our belongings and snuck up behind Grandmommy Harms at the baggage claim.

Once all the baggage was in the car we were off and ready to start our four days in Austin.  We spent our time visiting with family, meeting new friends, had lunch with Aunt Natalie at Moonshine (YUM), attended two showers, and still managed to sleep until 7:30 a.m. on the morning of the time change.  Throughout the trip Carter’s schedule was off and tested and he took it all like a trooper!

Going Home

The trip home went more smoothly than the first.  He never even made a peep.  It was nice to visit, but we were glad to get home and see Daddy!

MaMa…

This is music to a MaMa’s ears…

Russell took this video while I stepped out to get us some lunch this past weekend.  (Press the play key near the bar rather than the one in the middle of the screen.)

Packing and pictures

Today I am packing for Carter’s first airplane trip to Austin, TX.  We leave bright and early Thursday morning.  Russell isn’t able to join us for this first trip but we will take lots of pictures for him! We have a full visit planned as we are attending Kendal’s Baby shower on Saturday and Jennie’s Bridal shower on Sunday.  Carter will be making his debut appearance to some family and friends as well.

Here is a slideshow with recent pictures of Carter.  We love the ones with his football hat on!  He is 13 weeks old today.
